Panic as hoodlums ‘open fire’ on Adeleke’s convoy at Ataoja of Osogbo’s palace
There was palpable tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Wednesday after hoodlums reportedly attacked the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.
According to reports, Adeleke visited the monarch’s palace to present the certificate of return he received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke arrived at the palace at about 3:15pm in a convoy of 20 vehicles. However, suspected thugs reportedly opened fire on the governor’s convoy, triggering an exchange of gunfire with his security personnel.
The shooting was said to have lasted for about 12 to 15 minutes, shortly after the governor received prayers from the monarch.
According to Punch, Kolapo Alimi, commissioner for information and public enlightenment, confirmed the incident but said the governor’s security personnel repelled the attackers.
“They are hoodlums, and the governor’s security repelled them. They attacked the governor’s convoy at Ataoja’s palace. No casualty,” the commissioner was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command is yet to confirm or deny incident.
