There was tension at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, after multiple rounds of ammunition reportedly fell off a moving passenger bus travelling along the Zaria–Katsina highway.

A video posted on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism platform, showed that the incident happened right in front of the university’s main gate on Tuesday, causing brief confusion among students, pedestrians, and motorists.

According to the publication, an eyewitness who gave his name as Musa said the ammunition fell from a commercial vehicle heading towards Katsina.

“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” he said.

Musa also noted that some bystanders quickly gathered the ammunition and alerted security personnel stationed nearby.

A student, who asked not to be named, described the situation as “strange and frightening,” adding that many suspected the ammunition might be linked to supplies intended for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina.

Makama reported that security operatives later arrived and retrieved the ammunition.
