A fatal accident in Enugu State has resulted in the death of many people.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, the car accident occurred on the Enugu/Port-Harcourt road close to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.

The collision has been confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps, who described it as regrettable.

FRSC was unable to provide a causality number, however reports indicated that 13 passengers had burns that rendered them unrecognizable.

A 14-seater bus believed to be traveling from Imo State to Adamawa was claimed to have been involved in the tragedy. According to reports, the car hit a trailer before catching fire.

However, Enugu State Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr. Joseph Toby, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the investigation was still underway at the location of the accident.

Any number is wrong and speculative, in his opinion.

He said, “My boys are still at the accident scene. It was a commercial vehicle that was involved in the crash that caused a fire. So my people are still there, as I am telling you now, we don’t know the exact number of persons that were involved and I don’t want to start giving wrong information.

“But as soon as details are gathered, we will post it online. We don’t know the number of persons that were involved. It happened yesterday night. Throughout the night we were there with the fire service to make sure we put out the fire but because of the sit-at-home order, we found it difficult to go there this morning, eventually, I have taken my boys and we are there now. Any number you see is just speculation because we have to be very sure of what we give to the public.”
