Pastor Adeboye never campaigned for any government — RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has denied allegations that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, supported or campaigned for the current administration, maintaining that he has consistently remained non-partisan in political matters.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the church’s Public Relations department explained that Pastor Adeboye has always urged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in elections by voting according to their personal convictions, rather than promoting any political party or candidate.

The church also dismissed reports suggesting that Adeboye halted a planned protest. According to RCCG, he only relayed a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning changes to a three-day prayer programme and rally.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three Day Prayer Program in a centralized venue and hold a rally around the venue. This was communicated by PFN to all churches under PFN in Nigeria,” it said.

Additionally, RCCG rejected claims that the cleric deliberately avoids commenting on national concerns. The church stated that Adeboye has repeatedly addressed issues such as insecurity, corruption, economic challenges, elections, governance, and the importance of upright leadership, typically through spiritual guidance, prayer, and counselling rather than partisan political engagement.

“Let it be clearly stated: Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts,” the statement said.

The church further called on members of the public, bloggers, commentators, and media outlets to confirm information relating to Pastor Adeboye and RCCG through official church communication channels before publishing or sharing such reports.

“If a claim is not communicated, verified, or endorsed through RCCG’s official communication channels, it should not be regarded as an official position of the Church,” it stated.
