Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, publicly issued an apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala on Sunday, going as far as kneeling before his church members as he asked for forgiveness over past “mistakes.”
The apology follows an intense public dispute that has played out across social media. Ogala has accused Okafor of having an affair with her, making and breaking promises of marriage, sharing explicit material, and allegedly offering her $10,000 to withdraw claims that she was paid by rival pastors to tarnish his image.
In a video that went viral on Sunday and was shared by @NigeriaStories on X, Okafor was seen standing at the pulpit with a microphone, speaking directly to the congregation.
“Listen, we’re not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past, and I tender an apology to everybody,” Okafor said.
He went on to mention Ogala by name, saying, “I am sorry to everyone I have offended, to Doris Ogala also. I say sorry and apologise to everyone that I’ve offended.”
Emphasising his readiness to correct his actions, he added, “I’m ready to make a restitution to anyone, anybody, any lady I have offended. I am sorry. Forgive me.”
He also admitted his human flaws, stating, “Not perfect, I’ve never been perfect.”
The cleric then knelt before the congregation, a move that sparked applause, and continued, “I’m kneeling down before everyone and before the church. Forgive me. You can judge me. Pray for me.”
Despite this public show of remorse, Okafor insisted that “everything that was said is not true,” arguing that several of Ogala’s claims were filled with “so many lies.”
That stance appeared to escalate the situation further, as Ogala responded during an Instagram Live session. While she accepted his apology, she strongly rejected his assertion that her allegations were false.
“CHRIS OKAFOR, I FORGIVE YOU, BUT THERE’S A PROBLEM. WHERE YOU SAID EVERYTHING IS A LIE. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT BECAUSE I DON’T LIE,” she wrote.
The apology comes against the backdrop of continuing controversy triggered by Ogala’s claims that Okafor had promised to marry her after allegedly playing a role in the collapse of her previous relationship earlier this month. The situation intensified following the pastor’s wedding to a new wife, identified as Pearl, which reportedly took place earlier in the week.
According to reports, Okafor went ahead with the marriage despite Ogala’s viral accusations of betrayal, emotional manipulation, and backing out of a marriage promise after what she described as a long-term relationship.
In multiple videos shared earlier this month, a visibly emotional Ogala accused Okafor of destroying her life after a relationship she said lasted several years and began around 2017.
She claimed she ended her former marriage at his encouragement and later suffered emotional pain when the relationship suddenly ended.
Okafor had initially brushed aside the allegations, stating that he would allow legal authorities to handle the matter.
However, ongoing public scrutiny and Ogala’s refusal to retract her claims appear to have led to the pastor’s decision to issue a public apology.
