Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, has requested that the federal government provide traditional rulers with funding so they can combat insecurity in their respective spheres of influence.

Oluwo described the traditional rulers’ structure as the most efficient way to checkmate insecurity in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday, adding that the institution needed both constitutional support and financial mobilization to complete the duty.

He argued that convincing people of something may not be enough to prevent security breaches and urged the federal government to support competent traditional leaders who have authority over their constituents.

He emphasized that traditional institutions are necessary for the optimal performance of all law enforcement agencies and urged immediate constitutional and financial empowerment for the royal fathers so they can successfully oversee their realm.

A statement by Oluwo further read in part, “The most effective structure to checkmate insecurity is to empower traditional rulers constitutionally and financially.

“As a father to my subjects, I know every nook and cranny of my land. I have Baales, Chiefs and Princes cutting across all locations within my territory. If anything goes wrong anywhere, I know who to call for detailed and factual information.

“Should there be breach, those appointed by my office must know who to hold responsible. You can’t just mess up here. I have a properly structured and effective government.

“I enjoin the federal government to strengthen the institution. The state of the nation calls for better patronage of the institution. Responsible monarchs should be security alert.”
