The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized Ude Okoye as the party’s legitimate National Secretary and called on the National Working Committee (NWC) to promptly swear him in as the substantive officeholder.
This resolution was reached during an emergency meeting held on Wednesday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja to address the party’s ongoing internal crisis.
The meeting was attended by prominent members, including BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, BoT Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, and Senator Ben Obi, among others.
During the gathering, the BoT received a report from former Minister of Special Duties, Tamini Turaki, who had been tasked with reviewing court documents submitted by both Samuel Anyanwu, the current claimant to the National Secretary position, and Ude Okoye, who has contested the legality of Anyanwu’s tenure.
In his opening remarks, Senator Wabara praised the PDP governors for proposing that the National Working Committee convene the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in March. He also referenced last week’s violence as a reason for avoiding meetings at the Wadata Plaza until security is restored at the party’s secretariat.
The leadership dispute between Ude Okoye and Senator Samuel Anyanwu over the National Secretary role has caused divisions within the party, with members taking sides in the escalating conflict.
