The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has established a committee to address the ongoing dispute over the position of the party’s National Secretary.
Both Samuel Anyanwu and Udeh Okoye are claiming the role, with the matter currently pending in court.
Tensions escalated when supporters of the two individuals clashed at the PDP secretariat on Wednesday during the BoT meeting.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara announced that the committee will be chaired by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
Wabara explained that the committee’s mandate is to engage with the parties involved, analyze the situation, and provide a report to the Board for further action.
He also conveyed assurances from the party’s Acting Chairman, Umar Damagum, that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will proceed as planned in February 2025.
The meeting is expected to address key issues and reinforce the party’s commitment to unity, discipline, and its guiding principles.
The BoT meeting, presided over by Wabara, was attended by notable members, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido.
