The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum on Saturday cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other party members against attempts to derail the party’s national convention scheduled for 15 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a communiqué issued after its 7th meeting on 23 August 2025 in Gusau, Zamfara State, the governors reaffirmed their full support for the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July, which endorsed preparations for the convention.
The governors urged members to resist sabotage, stressing that the PDP remains the only credible democratic institution and viable alternative capable of restoring Nigeria to the path of good governance and development.
The meeting, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, discussed insecurity, democratic decline, and preparations for the convention. It commended PDP leaders and members for withstanding orchestrated defections, insisting that such distractions would not erode the party’s grassroots strength or Nigerians’ yearning for security and affordable living experienced under PDP administrations.
Reaffirming their commitment to rescuing the country, the governors accused the APC of fostering division and inflicting hardship on Nigerians through failed policies.
Meanwhile, Wike recently expressed dissatisfaction with the PDP National Working Committee’s decisions on zonal leadership. He warned of renewed crisis if the party failed to recognise his ally, Dan Orbih, as the duly elected National Vice Chairman for the South-South.
The FCT minister also rejected the zoning committee led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri. Once allies, Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have now parted ways, with some members accusing Wike of anti-party activities – allegations he has denied.
