The former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, visited Abdullahi Ganduje, the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, at his private house in Abuja on Tuesday to show his support. Wike, one of President Bola Tinubu’s 45 nominees for minister, was captured in viral photos standing beside Ganduje.

Some of Wike’s supporters and PDP leaders from the Rivers State branch may also be seen in the pictures, stoking speculation of a potential switch to the governing APC.

After entertaining the minister-designate and his group for many hours, Ganduje was seen entering the party secretariat at around 2.35 in the afternoon.

Top PDP leaders have also recently made fruitless attempts to get Wike ejected from the party due to his alleged anti-party behavior.

There were no formal specifics of their behind-closed-doors meeting as of the time this item was filed. The national publicity secretary of the ruling party was unable to be reached for comment.

Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s director of publicity, didn’t see anything wrong with the visit, either.

“You can see from what the national chairman said yesterday (at the meeting of former deputy governors) that he wants to improve on the fortune of the party, which is an indirect way of saying he is not ruling any option out.

“He wants to see to it that the party grows from strength to strength. He has come to improve the gains of the party, especially now that we have some isolated (off-season) gubernatorial elections in some states.”
