PDP triumphs in Taraba Reps Re-run for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing constituency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sadiq Tafida,emerges as the victor in the election for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency held on Wednesday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deemed inconclusive the by-election held on February 3 for the constituency due to the canceled votes surpassing the margin of victory.

The election’s returning officer, Daniel Ayuba, announced the results, declaring the PDP candidate victorious with 19,681 votes, surpassing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Innocent Jabayang, who scored 16,379. The PDP candidate is declared the winner and duly elected.

He highlighted that the conclusive results reveal PDP securing 19,681 votes, SDP obtaining 16,379, APC garnering 12,662, and the New Nigeria People’s Party finishing in fourth place with 3,646.

In response to the announcement,Governor Agbu Kefas’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Abubakar Bawa,expressed that the declaration was long overdue, stating that the election shouldn’t have proceeded to a re-run in the first place.

Bawa remarked that the electorate clearly voiced their choice on the initial voting day, considering the discrepancies leading to the re-run as mere distractions. He emphasized that Taraba, being a PDP state, would consistently prevail in any free and fair competition.
