The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned members supporting President Bola Tinubu to withdraw their backing or face tougher sanctions.
In a statement on Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba condemned such actions as “anti-party” and in breach of the opposition party’s constitution. Citing Section 59(1), he said the NWC would not tolerate conduct undermining the party’s unity or electoral prospects.
The committee also noted persistent public statements from some members declaring support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, in violation of Section 10(6) of the PDP constitution, which forbids aligning with other parties to weaken the PDP.
“These activities have caused division, disaffection and loss of members, and threaten our electoral fortunes if not checked,” Ologunagba said.
Despite the crisis, high-profile PDP figures have endorsed Tinubu. On 28 July, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose publicly backed the president and APC’s Ekiti governor Biodun Oyebanji for second terms. Five days earlier, Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke and the state PDP also declared support for Tinubu, describing him as “a proud son of our state.”
The NWC urged members to remain loyal ahead of the PDP National Convention, scheduled for 15–16 November 2025 in Ibadan.
