Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Monday declared that political stability had fully returned to the state.

He spoke to State House correspondents shortly after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, his first official visit since being reinstated as governor.

Fubara, who returned to office on 19 September after a six-month suspension during emergency rule, insisted that the political rift in Rivers had been resolved. He also confirmed that he now enjoys cordial relations with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he said when asked if the reconciliation was genuine.

The governor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for brokering peace and guiding the state back to stability. “It’s father-son discussion, telling him thank you and asking for direction so we don’t return to crisis,” he explained.

Fubara fell out with Wike months after taking office in May 2023, sparking a political standoff that split the House of Assembly. On 18 March 2025, President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers, and appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as administrator.

A series of reconciliatory meetings in June paved the way for a settlement, culminating in Tinubu’s decision to lift emergency rule on 17 September.

In a statewide broadcast, Fubara had earlier expressed “eternal gratitude” to the President for restoring peace and democracy in Rivers State.
