In the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, a petrol-filled tanker exploded along the line separating Olambe and Matogun.
According to reports, the truck driver was transporting gasoline to a nearby gas station when the poor road caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
According to information obtained, the truck crashed, the tank fell to the ground, ruptured, and gasoline flowed onto the road and into a nearby drainage channel.
Reports has it that a spark happened as the gasoline was leaking, and the ensuing fire destroyed nearby businesses and structures.
The fire, according to an eyewitness who only went by the name Oladele, sparked fear in the neighborhood, and he said that no fewer than 10 houses were destroyed by the fire.
He said, “A lot of people have abandoned their homes; some people are still looking for their children. This is a serious fire and it was caused by a tanker that fell while plying the Olambe to connect Matogun. Shops and about 10 building have been burnt.”
The incident was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency.
No casualties had been reported, he said, adding that the tank’s contents had leaked around seven in the morning.
Farinloye said, “A tanker laden with about 45,000 litres of PMS crashed, spilled its content and exploded around 7am at Olambe, Matogun Road, Ifo LGA, Ogun State.
“Though, no live was lost or anyone sustained injury but about 10 buildings were consumed in the incident.
“The situation was mitigated with most of the content spilling into the canal close to the scene, thereby saving the community from serious incident that could have affected people. The fire has been put out.”
