Nigeria’s national security adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has held discussions with JD Vance, vice-president of the United States, and Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, on counterterrorism cooperation in West Africa.
The development was disclosed in a post on X by Secure Nigeria, a social media platform focused on security matters, which said the meeting further strengthened collaboration between Nigeria and the US in the fight against terrorism in the region.
According to the post, President Bola Tinubu values the continued partnership and support from the US government under President Donald Trump.
“@officialABAT is grateful for @realDonaldTrump’s partnership and continued U.S. training and intelligence support as Nigerian forces intensify operations to dismantle terrorist networks, protect Nigerian Christians, and defend all vulnerable communities,” the post stated.
“Africa’s largest democracy isn’t wavering. Nigeria stands as a frontline U.S. partner against ISIS, Boko Haram, and rising terror threats across the Sahel.”
The platform added that both nations remain committed to defeating terrorism and improving regional security cooperation.
“This fight is winnable, and together, the U.S. and Nigeria intend to finish it,” the statement added.
In November 2025, Ribadu led a delegation of 10 senior Nigerian government officials to Washington, DC, for meetings with US authorities.
A month later, he also hosted a delegation from the United States Congress in Abuja.
The delegation was led by senior lawmakers and included Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore.
