Two individuals have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a two-story building under construction in the Ikota area of Lekki, Ajah, Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, left five workers injured, with others still trapped beneath the debris.

Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), stated that the injured have been hospitalized for treatment, while the remains of the deceased have been evacuated.

“So far, the bodies of an adult male and a young boy were recovered and five adult males with serious injuries have been rescued and taken to the hospital.

“Information indicates that more people are likely to still be under the rubble,” the NEMA official said in a statement.

According to Farinloye, search and rescue operations were ongoing. He said the immediate cause of the incident was unknown while further investigation would be conducted.
