Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled a notorious bandit camp, killing a suspected bandit in Angwan Bala, Kambari village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.
The operation, carried out on Sunday, 2025, was based on actionable intelligence gathered by the military.
Following credible reports on the movement of suspected bandits, the troops launched a fighting patrol to the identified hideout. Upon encountering the patrol team, the bandits opened fire, prompting the troops to respond swiftly and decisively.
In the ensuing firefight, one bandit was neutralized, while 23 others, including 19 males and four females, surrendered without further resistance.
This was disclosed in a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade.
According to Captain Oni, a thorough search of the camp resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and equipment. Items seized included four AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 rifle magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one English-made pistol, two locally-made guns, 28 cutlasses, 16 motorcycles, and 48 daggers and jackknives.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid a local chief in Amar village of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State the sum of ₦1,500,000 to acquire and establish their camp in the area.
