[PHOTOS] Customs boss Adeniyi bags NIJ fellowship award, pledges two-storey multimedia centre, upgrade of Institute’s community radio
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has said he will donate a two-storey multimedia research centre to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) durung the special convocation for the conferment of Fellowship Award.
He said that NIJ planted in him since 1989 a set of values which has helped him for almost four decades. He noted the values has followed him through the ranks and through his years in the Nigerian Customs Service.

He said to fulfill his commitment to NIJ, he will donate a two-story building to house a multimedia resource center which is to provide students with practical skills to build their capacity to function as 21st-century journalists and communication professionals.
“I am about to commit to construct and deliver a two-story building to house a multimedia resource center. This is not a pledge that is made lightly.

“I want to commit that construction will begin as soon as we get the right approval. I have held consultations with the authorities of the school, and the decision to have this multimedia center is based on the assessment that was conducted by us.

The project we are talking about is one that will provide students with practical skills to build their capacity to function as 21st-century journalists and communication professionals.”
“The NIJ community radio has operated online for seven years it is now time to bring this platform home the new center will provide a dedicated purposeful space for the radio station, In addition, an appropriate transmitter suitable for the station terrestrial operating licenses will be provided for.

“The online community radio will go on air, serving our communities as as always we meant to do I should also note that this commitment is part of the public social responsibility being pursued by Nigeria customs service under my leadership.”
He also encouraged the students, saying, “I want to challenge you to keep building, recognition will certainly find you.” He also said students should take personal and career development seriously.

The Chairman of NIJ Governing Council, His Excellency, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, while speaking during the events congratulated the CGC for the conferment Fellowship Award and also praises him for the progress progress made by the officers and members of the Nigeria Customs Service, undsr the leadership of the current Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, moving from contributing millions of Naira to generating trillions of naira for the Federation Account.

Aremo Osoba said, “whenever the President Tinubu and I discuss the success of his administration, CGC contributions are always mentioned. We highlight the remarkable progress made by the officers and members of the Nigeria Customs Service, moving from contributing millions of naira to generating trillions of naira for the Federation Account. His excellence was recognized not only by the President and the people of Nigeria but by the international community, leading to his historic election as the Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.”
While speaking with Journalist after the event, he shared on how he was felt honoured for the award.
He said, “I feel inspired and delighted for a number of reasons. First, the recognition is a great honour, and it also serves as a personal challenge to continue our work in building the capacity of this generation of journalists and communication professionals.”

He noted that “the donations are aimed at improving students’ learning conditions and creating a multimedia environment for journalists. I urge them to make the best use of these facilities and to approach life with determination, so they too can return in the future to contribute to the institution.”
