Over ten people injured in a road accident on the Benin–Auchi highway on Saturday were rescued after Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, intervened.

The governor, travelling with his entourage to Irrua in Esan Central LGA, met a heavy gridlock shortly after the bypass and stepped down to assess the cause.

At the accident scene, he found several victims in critical condition, many bleeding heavily, while bystanders looked on helplessly. Moved by their plight, he ordered aides to deploy two of his security Hilux vehicles to convey the injured to hospital.

Okpebholo personally supervised the rescue, ensuring passengers — including a severely injured woman — were lifted into the vehicles and rushed for urgent treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred when the driver of a white Toyota Venza, registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW, drove against traffic, colliding with three commercial minibuses filled with passengers. The impact left many wounded and triggered a major traffic jam.

The governor stayed at the scene until all victims were evacuated under security escort, before continuing his journey to Irrua. His swift intervention earned applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers.
