A devastating fire has engulfed the renowned Araromi spare parts market at Agodi-Gate in Ibadan, Oyo State, destroying property valued at millions of naira.
The inferno reportedly broke out around 2am on Saturday and continues to rage as firefighters struggle to bring it under control.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, said: “We are battling a serious inferno at Agodi-Gate. Help us contact water tanker owners to assist us. We are still here battling the situation.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations underway.
This marks the latest in a series of recent fire incidents in Ibadan. On Friday, a fire at Ori-Eru, Idikan, claimed the lives of a couple and their grandson, affecting a storey building in the early hours of the morning.
Earlier in the week, a blaze ravaged three shops in Ibadan, with firefighters preventing it from spreading to 13 others.
Additionally, last Friday, a fire broke out during a vigil at a Christ Apostolic Church parish in the Lagelu Local Government Area, reportedly trapping several worshippers inside.
Authorities are urging increased vigilance as the city grapples with these tragic events.
