Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara met with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga shared photos from the meeting.

“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday,” Onanuga captioned the photos he posted on his X handle on Tuesday evening.

However, details of what transpired during the visit have yet to be known.

The visit follows months after President Bola Tinubu suspended Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly due to a prolonged political crisis in the state.

The conflict in Rivers State originated from a power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The discord soon extended to the Rivers House of Assembly, splitting lawmakers into two factions—one supporting Wike and the other backing the embattled governor.

On March 18, Tinubu made the controversial decision to suspend Fubara, Odu, and the state lawmakers for six months, citing the need to preserve peace and security in the state. Alongside the suspension, Tinubu appointed retired naval chief Ibok-Ette Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State.

The President explained that the measure was necessary after attempts to resolve the crisis failed and amid concerns over pipeline explosions in the region.

“With all these and many more, no good and responsible President will stand by and allow the grave situation to continue without taking remedial steps prescribed by the Constitution to address the situation in the state, which no doubt requires extraordinary measures to restore good governance, peace, order, and security.

However, since Fubara’s suspension, he has repeatedly expressed interest in peace in the oil-rich state and a desire to settle with Wike, whom he described as his boss.
