Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 Budget into law.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Fubara commended the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State Assembly for their diligence in passing the budget.
He reiterated that the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly remains the only legitimate legislative body in the state.
The governor made this assertion while signing the 2025 Appropriation Bill, exactly a week after submitting it to the Assembly.
The budget outlines provisions for state spending until December 31, 2025, spanning 12 sections.
Fubara also addressed the defection of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring they are no longer recognized as legislators despite recent attempts to reverse their actions.
The Amaewhule faction is aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has been in a protracted conflict with Fubara.
The governor emphasized that ample opportunities were given to the defectors to reconsider their decision, but the disqualification remains final.
He condemned the level of disrespect he has faced, affirming his commitment to driving Rivers State toward greater progress.
