Heavy rainfall in Natsinta village, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, has resulted in the destruction of at least 250 houses.

The area has experienced a week of unprecedented rainfall, starting from Saturday of the previous week.

While no fatalities were reported from the torrential rain, which persisted continuously for three days—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—several individuals sustained various degrees of injury.

Channels Television reported that the disaster has left many residents of the affected houses in a state of distress and uncertainty.

The lack of proper drainage systems in the area has been cited as a contributing factor to the extensive damage.

Resident Mas’udu Lawal pointed to the disruption of a vital drainage channel as a key factor that worsened the impact of the disaster.

Another victim, identified as Abdurrahman Ibrahim, shared that residents lost not only their homes but also valuables worth millions of Naira due to the disaster.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Hon. Mustapha Yusuf, the representative of Jibia Local Government Area at the Katsina State House of Assembly, visited the affected area.

He assured residents of the Assembly’s commitment to prompt state government intervention and encouraged all stakeholders—government officials, political leaders, and businesspeople—to contribute generously to support those impacted during this difficult period.

The District Head of Daddara, Alhaji Usman Nagoggo, voiced deep concern over the extensive destruction, which has caused considerable confusion among residents.

He urged government officials and other stakeholders to show compassion and provide support to those affected.

The displaced residents are struggling to find shelter amid existing challenges such as poverty, insecurity, and food scarcity.
