The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), as part of its efforts to curb building collapses, has evacuated residents from a deteriorating building in the Gbagada area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on X.com on Friday, where LASBCA explained that the evacuation was necessary due to the “critically distressed” condition of the building.

The statement read, “In its ongoing efforts to mitigate the risk of building collapses in Lagos, the Lagos State Building Control Agency today evacuated occupants from a critically distressed structure located at No. 5 Estapor Avenue, Sholuyi, Gbagada, in the Kosofe area of the state.”

“The evacuation was deemed necessary to prevent an imminent collapse and ensure the safety of the lives and properties of the occupants,” the statement added.

Images of the building shared revealed structural defects with wide cracks in the walls.

It is worth noting that a two-storey building in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos collapsed on Monday due to structural distress.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), despite being issued eviction notices, some occupants had refused to leave the premises before the collapse occurred.
