The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has expressed strong confidence that the end of banditry is imminent, urging troops to collaborate with ground forces and other stakeholders to eliminate threats to the nation.
His optimism follows significant successes achieved by the Nigerian Air Force in the Northwest region over the past week, where multiple bandit hideouts were dismantled.
On Monday, the Minister, alongside the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, inaugurated two additional ATAK-129 helicopters into Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2 at the NAF Airport Wing in Katsina State.
The Minister highlighted that these helicopters possess distinct advantages over other fighter jets, enabling them to track and neutralize enemies effectively. Deployed to combat bandits and other criminal groups destabilizing the Northwest, these new assets are crucial in ensuring no criminal can evade justice.
Abubakar commended the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of the troops in the ongoing mission to secure Nigeria’s future. He expressed confidence that their efforts are already yielding positive results, as farmers return to their land, children resume school, businesses flourish, and citizens enjoy greater peace.
“We salute you for your selflessness, leaving the comfort of your homes to protect our shared future,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring you and your families receive the necessary support, resources, and benefits.”
With the induction of these new platforms, Abubakar believes the troops’ capabilities will make Nigerians proud. He emphasized that the specialized air units deployed have the precision, speed, and reach to ensure that no enemy can evade justice.
He urged continued cooperation with ground forces and other partners, stressing that synergy is key to achieving a safer, stronger Nigeria. “If this momentum continues, we will soon eliminate banditry,” he stated.
The Minister reassured the troops of the Federal Government’s ongoing support for them and their families. “The end is near,” he affirmed, calling for maximum cooperation, intelligence, and public prayers to bring an end to the crisis.
