Six Nigerians have arrived in Lagos from the United States and were received by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The returnees arrived on November 4, 2026, through the airport’s Cargo Terminal, with NEMA confirming their arrival in a statement released on Sunday.

The agency explained that the exercise was handled by its Lagos Operations Office alongside the United States Consulate, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria Immigration Service and ExecuJet.

The group consisted of five men and one woman, all adults, who touched down at approximately 10:13 pm in a Beechcraft 1900 aircraft with registration number N62FF.

Providing details of the arrival, NEMA said immigration officials attended to the necessary documentation and identification procedures before the returnees were received.

“The returnees arrived at approximately 10:13 p.m. aboard a Beechcraft 1900 aircraft with registration number N62FF. The group comprised five males and one female, all adults.

“Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted the necessary immigration documentation and profiling to ensure proper identification, record-keeping and a smooth arrival process.

“NEMA coordinated the reception in collaboration with the relevant agencies, while necessary reception and post-arrival support services were provided to facilitate the returnees’ transition following their arrival in the country,” the statement said.

NEMA, however, did not explain the reasons behind their return or clarify whether the individuals were sent back by US authorities or chose to return to Nigeria voluntarily.

The development comes as the administration of US President Donald Trump continues to strengthen immigration enforcement, with increased attention on migrants without legal residency and foreign nationals with criminal convictions.

Nigeria has been among the countries affected by the policy, as the US Department of Homeland Security has identified several Nigerian nationals for removal from the country in 2026 over different immigration and criminal-related issues.

NEMA said the operation was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians returning from other countries are received in a safe and orderly manner, with necessary assistance provided through cooperation between government agencies and international partners.
