Residents of Onikainkain in Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State, have lamented the poor condition of the region’s roads, which are continuously deteriorated by flooding.

Recent rainfall in Ibadan reportedly flooded a bridge in the region, leaving pedestrians particularly stranded while vehicle drivers risked manoeuvring through the water.

One of the residents remarked that the government had done nothing to remedy the situation for a very long time. According to reports, the 16th and 21st of May precipitation worsened the situation.

The people “have no option but to pass on the wretched bridge with their shoes and sandals off.

“We lack all government amenities in the area. We don’t have motorable roads. Okada riders are avoiding our community now.
“For almost a month now, we have no power supply,” a resident, Busari Usman added.

The residents called on the public for rescue “as our area is under siege of the flood.”
