The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally scheduled for today, has been postponed.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed that the meeting will not take place as announced by the Minister of Education on Friday.

While no reason was provided for the postponement, the meeting is now expected to be held on Wednesday, August 28.

Last week, public university lecturers, represented by ASUU, threatened to initiate a nationwide strike, citing the Federal Government’s failure to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement.

This announcement was made following the union’s national executive council meeting, which took place at the University of Ibadan over the preceding weekend.

ASUU’s demands include addressing welfare issues, improving university funding, and curbing the proliferation of universities across the country. The planned meeting aimed to prevent another strike by ASUU.
