At least 17 communities in Mangu LGA, Plateau State, which were forced to flee their homes after recent attacks, have been rebuilt so that internally displaced people can return to their ancestral lands.

The General Officer Commanding Three Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven in Mangu, announced this while distributing relief supplies to internally displaced people who have not yet returned to their homes.

Recent attacks by bandits in several communities within the Mangu Local Government Area have resulted in the tragic loss of lives and properties, as well as the displacement of hundreds of individuals from their ancestral residences.

These displaced individuals, who are now scattered across various facilities in Mangu, have been enduring harsh weather conditions. Thankfully, the state government, along with concerned citizens and organizations, has been actively providing assistance to alleviate the suffering of these displaced residents.

The Joint Security Task Force, known as Operation Safe Haven, is committed to eliminating criminal activities in these communities and ensuring the safety of the local population. They have achieved significant progress through both physical and non-physical operations.

As part of their non-physical operations, the task force distributed relief materials to those affected as a temporary measure to alleviate the hardships faced due to displacement.

In addition to offering health and security services to the displaced, various relief items such as noodles, rice, beans, vegetable oil, and other essentials were provided to them at designated facilities.

Markus Artu, the Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee in Mangu, expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Joint Security Task Force in the region. He also requested increased security presence in other vulnerable communities to preempt potential attacks.

The primary objective for both the Joint Security Task Force and the state government is to secure all unlawfully occupied communities, ensuring a safe return for displaced individuals to their ancestral homes, accompanied by robust security measures in the affected areas.
