Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
The governor’s directive was communicated through a press statement signed by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs.
According to the statement, the decision was made in consultation with state security agencies following a review of actions by “unscrupulous individuals” who exploited the nationwide protest to inflict terror on innocent citizens in the affected areas.
“The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive plateau,” Governor Mutfwang added.
It is worth noting that despite the peaceful conduct of protesters during the four-day street demonstrations, some hoodlums armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Area. They looted food items and other valuables before security agencies intervened to prevent further escalation of the criminal activities.
