The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, on Saturday visited internally displaced persons in Bokkos and Barkin-ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, where armed men carried out attacks on Christmas Eve.
Accompanied by party officials from the state, Obi pledged a sum of 5 million naira to each local government area of Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, where displaced persons are currently seeking refuge.
Expressing dismay and condemnation for the attacks that resulted in loss of lives and property, he emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens.
Obi voiced concern about the unacceptable number of Nigerians seeking refuge as displaced persons within their own country, urging the government to address this issue.
The attacks, carried out by gunmen on over 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas on Christmas Eve, resulted in the tragic death of over 190 people.
The assailants set several houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and destroyed properties, leaving a trail of devastation. Despite the severity of the attack, no group has claimed responsibility.
