Plateau: Mutfwang rejects Lalong’s appointments in seven MDAs, accepts five, calls for review in 42

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has rejected the nominations made by his predecessor, Simon Lalong, to seven ministries, divisions, and agencies (MDAs) of the state government.

The governor approved five and requested that selections to 42 additional positions be examined in order to reflect the diversity of the state.

It will be remembered that during the waning days of his administration, Lalong, who is now the Minister of Labour and Employment as well as the senator-elect for Plateau South, conducted enormous recruitments into MDAs.

However in his assumption of office Mutfwang sacked all those appointed and set up a committee to renew the exercise.

In a report presented to the government and sighed by the Commissioner of Information and Communication, Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, the state government rejected the appointment made into seven MDAs while accepting that of five others.

The committee also adopted to review the appointments made into 42 MDAs.

The statement said, “Recall that the Government of Plateau state set up committees and panels to make appropriate recommendations in respect to employments in the Plateau state civil service.

“The draft white paper standing Committee has come up with the following recommendations which the Plateau state Executive Council has adopted: Ministry of Mineral Development., Judicial Service Commission, committee upholds the exercise as the Commission enjoys autonomy, Office of the Deputy Governor, Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, Plateau state Solid Minerals Development Agency.

“By this declaration, the staff of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies highlighted above are to resume work immediately while government makes effort to clear the arrears of their salaries and other benefits.

“However, the following MDAs will undergo proper scrutiny and review in ensuring that capable hands are given requisite responsibilities.

1. Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Town Planning.

2. Ministry of Higher Education.

3. Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

4. Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality.

5. Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

6. Ministry of Finance.

7. Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning,

8. Ministry of Housing

9. Ministry of Information and Communication.

10. Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation

11. Ministry of Works.

12. Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

13. Ministry of Women Affairs.

14. Ministry of Health.

15. Ministry of Budget

16. Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning.

17. Ministry of Environment.

18. Ministry of Education (Secondary).

While calling for a review of the appointments made into the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, government frownef at the involvement of Civil Service Commission in its employment and directs review to reflect even spread.

The statement said that the government rejected and outrightly canceled the the employments made into:

1. Disability Rights Commission.

2. Plateau State Water and Sanitation Agency.

3. Relevant Technology Board.

4. Jos Metropolitan Development Board.

5. Office of the Auditor General Local Government.

6. Government House Administration.

7. Bureau of Statistics

The statement directed that in reviewing or carrying out fresh employment exercise, competence, capacity, capability and State Character Principle must reflect even spread across the 17 LGAs that make up Plateau state, and consideration shall be given to ad hoc or casual staff in those MDA’s or Institutions.
