Pocket-Friendly ways to keep Children occupied during this holidays

We do not want our kids to spend soo much time watching television and straining their eyes, especially when children like to stay very close to the television. So here’s a list of activities that your child will enjoy. 

a). Perfect their colouring skills.

          Now that we have our kids at home, especially those still in their early years and trying to perfect their colouring skills. Parents can introduce them to several colouring books with images ranging from animals, houses, human beings, and various other things. This then allows them to be well-prepared for the next academic session.

b). Play Board games.

         Playing games helps bring the family closer together and improves family time. Games here include; Ludo, monopoly, scrabbles and soo many others.

c). Read a book.

        Reading books has proven beneficial. It helps improve one’s vocabulary and communication skills. In addition, reading to your children can be bonding.

d). Learn to Knit.

          This activity is perfect for older children as they will be more patient and willing to learn. You can all use this opportunity to knit lovely pieces like jumpers, table clothes, and tops, depending on what you want.

e). Decluttering items.

         Yes, a little house chore won’t hurt. The holiday season is perfect for decluttering our homes of things we don’t need, like clothes, cooking utensils, shoes, books, jewellery etc. After decluttering, we can send these items to charity, places like orphanages.

f). Watch Kid’s appropriate Tv Programs.

        As parents/guardians, the goal is always to monitor what our kids are watching, to ensure it is appropriate, and to teach them the right values. Some of these programs are: Super strikas, Sophia the first, PJ mask, and teen titans GO! Which can be watched on Dstv or Gotv, and other fantastic online options on Youtube.

g). Wash your car.

         Yeah, older children can partake in this type of activity/chore. Once in a while, they can help you wash your cars, they might not necessarily need to deep clean your car, but a little wipe here and there with water should be fine and fun. Likewise, parents & Children can entertain themselves by splashing water on themselves and having a good time.

h). Learn how to cook.

         What other time to teach kids, especially older children, their way around the kitchen, if not during the holidays? This is a perfect time to make family meals with your children and, in the process, teach them how to cook; Meals such as your local dishes, jollof rice, Akara balls, Nigerian pap, Nigerian soup etc.

i). Learn a musical instrument.

          It’s impressive when we see kids indulge themselves in extracurricular activities such as learning musical instruments. During the holidays, you can register your children in various musical classes or employ someone who teaches them at home. You can also get them to learn the basics online from different platforms such as Youtube.

j). Play card games.

       Most people tend to enjoy card games; if your family enjoys this, it’s an excellent way to spend time together. There are various card games to buy; examples include; whot, gidi words family party game.

k). House cleaning.

         The holiday period is when the whole family gets to spend time together. And you, as a parent, can use this opportunity to give your house a deep clean. It’s best to divide chores amongst family members, where you can all be gisting and productive.

l). Have a Fashion show.

        Parents can also have their kids play dress-up and have a fashion show. But, of course, it would be great to have kids dress in different outfits and pretend like they are on the runway.

j). Play home games like hide and seek.

        Most kids love to play games like this. Where someone gets to hide and the other tries to find them, you can play this game indoors or outdoors.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

    It’s now time for some great activities which can be done outside our homes.

a). Visit the cinema.

         Parents can always take their children to cinemas to watch recently released films. Most times, kids are always excited to leave the house. This is an excellent experience for the whole family. Don’t forget to grab popcorn and drink to experience it all. Also, don’t forget to ask for a children’s discount to get a percentage of your expenses.

b). Go window shopping.

        You can go on a random window shopping spree with your kids. Of course, outings like this must not be planned; maybe after a cinema visit, you can all decide to go window shopping. Walk into different stores like Shoprite or Spa, where you have a variety of stores and things to look at.

c). Enjoy a nice picnic.

          Picnic time with the family sounds like a great idea. You do not have to spend so much on planning one. Food and drinks can get from the house, games such as ludo and whot will be perfect. Don’t forget your loudspeaker to enjoy good music while having a great time.

d). Teach them a new activity.

          In the spirit of teaching our kids something new, you can consider registering them for swimming classes. If your kids don’t know how to swim, this will be an excellent opportunity to teach them how to.

e). Go for a nice drive with kids.

           Going for a nice drive with your kids is always excellent; you must not have any specific locations in mind. Instead, you can drive around your city and show your children some of its famous places.

g). Plan outings with the family.

         The holiday is a great time to take kids to beautiful places in your town, such as amusement parks, beaches, and zoos. We also have a list of tourist attractions for you to visit.
