The Gombe State Police Command reports that over 17,800 candidates have been selected for screening in the current 2023–2024 police recruitment process within the state.
ASP Mahid Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, conveyed this information during an interview with reporters on Wednesday in Gombe.
Abubakar stated that approximately 2,000 applicants have undergone screening thus far, assuring that the remaining candidates would undergo the process before the deadline.
He added that the Police Recruitment Board had authorized the screening of successful applicants for recruitment into the constable cadre.
Abubakar clarified that the shortlisted individuals were candidates from 2022 who submitted their forms in 2023.
“So far, so good. The Gombe State Police command has been able to commence this exercise on the scheduled date, which is Monday.
“That’s the 2022 recruitment because it’s just like a carry-over. They filled out their forms last year (2023), and here we are today to screen 17,800 candidates who have been shortlisted.
“We have so far screened about 1,900 to 2,000. They have finished the documentation,” he said.
Regarding the quantity of applicants to be hired by the state police, Abubakar mentioned that this would be decided by the recruitment board.
To guarantee the screening of only certified and qualified individuals, the police spokesperson emphasized that thorough verification of all necessary educational and other qualifications was underway.
“We are picking the most qualified; as you can see, the exercise is purely free. The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, following directives has been addressing the candidates since Monday till date,” he said.
