Police, Amotekun apprehend five Indian hemp farmers in Ekiti

The Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State Command, Emmanuel Ogundare, has announced that the police in Ekiti State have detained five alleged drug dealers after conducting thorough investigations and follow-up.

Ogundare reported that one individual, known as Monday, was detained during a stop and search operation by members of the police Rapid Response Squad along with agents from the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps.

In a statement released by the police public relations officer, Sunday Abutu, the police commissioner said that the suspect, who was detained during a stop and search along Uso Road in Ise-Ekiti, had a locally produced pistol and two live rounds in his hands.

He stated, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he is an Indian hemp dealer who engages in the cultivation of the weeds at Ise-Ekiti forest and other nefarious activities.

“He mentioned four others – ThankGod, Lucky, Wisdom and Samuel – as his criminal allies and led the police team to their hideouts in Ise-Ekiti forest”.

The commissioner said that items recovered from them included “one locally made single barrel gun, four cartridges, a large number of seeds and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp”.

While he reaffirmed the command’s commitment to stopping criminal actions, which were typically brought on by high use of narcotics and other illicit drugs, he added that the suspects arrested will be charged in court at the conclusion of the inquiry.

The state’s top cop also urged citizens to always come forward with information that could help officers catch criminal suspects.
