Police apprehend car snatchers, recover fake $300,000 in FCT

Members of the Nigeria Police Force, specifically from the Federal Capital Territory Command, have apprehended three individuals known for their involvement in car theft and robbery within Abuja and its surroundings.

The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Ben Igweh, disclosed during the parade of suspects that on February 16, 2024, at approximately 3:00pm, operatives of the Command acted on reliable information to apprehend three well-known and wanted car thieves.

These apprehended individuals include David Junior Godwin from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, identified as the ringleader; Paul Taju from Gwagwalada, Abuja; and Ali Shitu, also from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The CP clarified that these suspects constitute a four-member gang specializing in interstate car theft and robbery. They operate by entering the FCT, committing their criminal activities, and transporting the stolen vehicles to Port-Harcourt for sale.

Furthermore, on February 23, 2024, around 2:15pm, based on credible intelligence, police operatives from the anti-fraud unit arrested two suspects, Abdullahi Yahaya from Nasarawa State, and Gold Ebere from Jabi, Abuja. They were apprehended at a garden in Jabi, Abuja, in possession of 36 bundles of counterfeit $100 bills, totaling approximately $300,000.
