Police apprehend suspect with 10 ATM cards in Adamawa

Joseph Nwakibe, who is accused of engaging in joint fraud activities with his companion Obinna Ajima (who is currently at large), has been detained by the Adamawa State Police Command.

The police claimed that Nwakibe had ten expired Automated Teller Machine cards that he reportedly used to switch with the cards of his victims at the ATM location in order to scam them.

Suleiman Yahaya, the command’s spokesman, revealed this in a statement on Friday.

The statement partly read, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects go around with several expired ATM cards of various banks and await their victims. They usually queue behind customers, pretend as customers, and usually offer to assist anyone they perceive is having difficulties in making transactions. In the process, they take note of the person’s ATM card pin number and smartly swap the card with the fake one in their hand.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP SK Akande, while commending the effort of the operatives in apprehending such criminal minded elements, equally directed that effort be intensified to arrest the other suspect who is currently at large.

“The CP further advises members of the public to be careful and refuse any assistance from criminal elements while making bank transactions at ATM point, stating that on no account should they seek help from strangers but rather call on the attention of the bank security men should they need any help.”
