The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old casual staff member, Shuaibu Adamu, in connection with the alleged killing of a worker at the Government House.
The arrest was confirmed in a press statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, Buhari Abdullahi. He said the police received a distress call on Friday reporting a suspected case of culpable homicide within the Government House premises.
According to him, “The report stated that a male adult, Mallam Umar, a borehole operator, was found lying motionless within the premises. Preliminary findings showed his trousers were tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant, popularly called rubber solution, was found in his mouth,”
He added that the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.
Abdullahi said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, visited the scene of the incident and directed a comprehensive investigation.
He explained that CCTV footage later showed Mr Adamu, also known as ‘Yaya Mama’, physically assaulting the victim shortly before his death, after which he fled the scene.
“A follow-up operation at about 11:00 p.m. on Friday led to his arrest at Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe,” Abdullahi said.
He further disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed during preliminary questioning and would remain in police custody while investigations are concluded and prosecution initiated.
“The command reassures the public of its commitment to justice and safety around government facilities,” Abdullahi stated.
