The Lagos State Police Command is investigating a 25-year-old man, Chibunna Chiemelie, for allegedly stabbing his father to death at their home on Oba Kabiru Street in Isolo, Lagos.
Chiemelie was arrested after a neighbor reported the incident to the Aswani Police Division.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect admitted to the crime following his arrest.
According to Hundeyin, “The incident occurred on October 3, 2024, at around 9:30 pm, when a complainant reported to the Aswani Division that he had received a call from his father’s neighbour.”
“The neighbour informed him that his father, Mr Chiemelie, aged 68, was in an altercation with his son. The complainant rushed to the residence and found his father’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, which led to the police report” he added.
“Police officers were dispatched to the scene, where a blood-stained knife was discovered near the deceased. Photographs of the scene were taken, and the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Isolo, where he was pronounced dead”.
The suspect was arrested shortly after, and during questioning, he admitted to killing his father. The body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, while the investigation is ongoing.
