The Kano State Police Command has displayed alleged members of a knife-wielding gang that residents believe has been terrorising them in the city capital.
According to victim testimony, the accused exploit busy roadways during rush hour and large gatherings to cause mayhem.
Despite areas of unrest, Kano, the northwest region’s commercial centre, remained mostly tranquil until the emergence of knife-wielding gangs.
Ibrahim Idris, a Federal Polytechnic graduate; Umar Muhammad, a National Commission for Museums and Monuments staff member; Atiku Tijjani, a physiotherapist at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital; Muhammad Sulaiman of Sharada Quarters; and Abdullahi Bala, a 30-year-old tailor, were all killed by the gang.
However, Musa Sani was lucky to survive with injuries to his left arm.
The gang arrested by the Anti-Daba Division of the police command are notorious for taking advantage of busy areas, wreaking havoc on members of the public in broad daylight.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, called on the public to help them find other members of the gang from among the residents of the city.
The gang members may have been arrested and headed to prosecution, but the people of Kano may not be able to rest easy until the gangs are completely eliminated.
