The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his 40-year-old wife to death.

The incident allegedly resulted from a disagreement with the wife over a door.

The police command said in a statement yesterday that it arrested the man, a commercial driver, on New Year day.

The command said in the statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Suleiman Nguroje, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). “The suspect, Muhammed Alfa, a resident of Lande B Village, Gombi Local Government Area, stabbed his wife, Hamsatu Muhammad, with a knife after a little argument.”

The police further explained in the statement that the wife had earlier separated from the man and relocated to a different house.

Nguroje said: “In an effort to fix her new room, she removed a zinc door of her former house to fix on her new apartment. Angered by her action, the suspect stabbed his wife and mother of his children.”

He added that the woman fell unconscious as a result of a knife wound in her neck and was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.

He explained: “The suspect was apprehended by the police in Gombi Divisional headquarters, following a report received from Jauro Babangida Boka, the Village Head, Lande.”

Nguroje added that findings had revealed that the suspect had eight children with the deceased.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Barde, had ordered a clinical investigation into the case and the suspect would be prosecuted according to relevant laws.
