The police have detained more than 50 individuals in connection with last Saturday’s protest in Ekpoma, located in Esan West Local Government Area.

According to the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, those arrested were allegedly involved in looting and other acts of violence.

He explained that the suspects were picked up from different parts of Ekpoma after several shops were ransacked and the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma was vandalised during the protest.

The suspects were driven in a black maria to the Edo State where they are waiting to be arraigned.

At the court premises, relatives of the victims were seen loitering around.

As of the press time, security operatives cordoned off the court room and refused to allow journalists inside.
