The Nigeria Police Force has announced the detention of six suspects in connection with an ongoing security operation in Benue State, following a deadly assault on Police Tactical Teams at the Agu Centre in the Katsina-Ala/Ukum axis.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the attack was reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militia groups.

“The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, resulted in the death of three police officers, while seven others are still missing.

“The arrested suspects are in custody and assisting with useful information. Equally, the IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” the statement read.

Hundeyin said Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Innocent Emenari, is leading the on-ground operation to rescue missing officers and track down fleeing suspects.

He added that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the attack as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”

“The IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” the PPRO added.

The Police appealed to residents to remain calm and to support security agencies while operations continue.
