Police arrest suspected drug dealer, nine others, in Jigawa

On Wednesday, the Jigawa State Police Command announced that its agents had successfully apprehended Mahdi Salisu, 33, of Taura town, a suspected drug dealer, together with nine other suspected offenders, after conducting a raid at Unguwar Gabas in the state’s Taura Local Government Area.

The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Shiisu Adam, in a statement, said, “As part of the deliberate efforts of the Command to rid the state of crimes and criminality, on July 11, 2022 at about 23:00hrs, a team of policemen, attached to Taura Divisional Police Headquarters, led by SP Yohana Babale, raided criminal hideouts and black spots at Unguwar Gabas in Taura LGA.”

At the end of the day, DSP Adam said that nine individuals had been taken into custody as a result of the operation, including Manlafiya Kaugama LGA residents Isah Saleh, age 22, Usman Hassan, age 25, and Dahiru Sama’ila, age 20.

Others were Usman Nasiru ‘m’ age 20 years, of Rigar Garin Baushe Gagarawa Division, Yusufa Usman ‘m’ age 18 years of Dugunu Gujungu Taura LGA, Ali Ado ‘m’ age 30 years, and Garba Wada ‘m’ age 20 yers, all of Gambayi Nomi Village.

The rest included Hassan Muhammad ‘m’ age 20 years of Bela Gagarawa LGA, and Nura Haruna ‘m’ age 20 years of Jimfi Kaugama LGA.

The statement claims that intelligence gathering resulted in the arrest of a drug dealer at the Bakin Kasuwa black spot in Taura town. The man was identified as Mahdi Salisu “m,” 33, of Taura town, Taura LGA.

In addition, the statement stated that the operatives discovered 102 wraps and a small amount (wrapped in black nylon) of dried leaves, thought to be Indian hemp, in his possession.

The statement further stated that all suspects would be charged to court and subject to the full force of the law following a thorough investigation.

After gathering intelligence, raids on criminal hideouts and “black spots” would continue in the entire state, according to Jigawa State Police Command Commissioner of Police CP Aliyu Tafida.

However, he praised the Divisional Police Officer Taura and his team for their efforts and urged him and the other officers in the Command to work even harder to eradicate all criminals and their allies from the state.
