The Police in Ogun State have arrested a suspect involved in the kidnapping of Adegbiyi Joseph, who was abducted while visiting a friend in Iyana Ishasi, Lagos State.

The arrest followed an investigation initiated by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igbesa after Joseph reported the incident on January 10, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., accompanied by his brother.

Joseph narrated that on January 4, 2025, while waiting by the river in Iyana-Ishasi, six men ambushed him. He was unable to identify their exact origin. One of the assailants threatened him with a locally made pistol and a jackknife, forcing him into a boat, which took him to a house in Itekun, near Igbesa.

While in captivity, Joseph was beaten and robbed of his belongings, including his phone. Two separate transactions totalling N356,000 were made to a BST PoS (Point of Sale) account, and a further withdrawal from his bank account amounted to N310,300, bringing the total stolen amount to N666,300.

Despite his pleas for release, the kidnappers refused to let him go. However, Joseph managed to escape and sought medical treatment at a hospital. Following the report, the DPO led a patrol team to Itekun Village, where the crime occurred. The team was able to identify and arrest one suspect, who confessed to the crime and named the leader of the group.

Meanwhile, another suspect, Gamina Solomon, identified as the ringleader, remains at large, along with the other accomplices.

“Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects, and the case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran after preliminary investigations. Further updates will be provided as they arise,” the police said.
