The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended Saidu Yaro, a 30-year-old suspected notorious armed bandit who is also known as Sabon Jini. He hails from Tsaskiya Village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. This arrest follows the tragic demise of an Area Commander for Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar, and another officer.

The police spokesman, ASP Sadiq Abubakar, announced that a suspect arrested at the command’s headquarters in Katsina had been sought by the police for a long time for a variety of crimes, including kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other serious offenses.

According to reports, Yaro was arrested on August 30 at approximately 5:30 PM, based on reliable intelligence, for his involvement in the kidnapping of Hussaini Nabara from Kagara Village in Dutsin-ma LGA.

Investigations revealed that the suspect, acting under the orders of notorious bandit leader Abubakar Jankare, conspired with three other bandits, Usman Modi-Modi, Auta Nokia, and Sule Malam Aibo, and others to ambush and kill late Area Commander Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar, and another officer.

The suspect is reported to have confessed to the crime, and further investigations are ongoing.

The command also confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old suspected notorious arms smuggler, Ibrahim Abdullahi, also known as Dogo, from Sabon Garin Dunburawa village in Batsari LGA.

Ibrahim Abdullahi was arrested on September 2 at around 10:30 PM in the Rahamawa quarters of the Katsina metropolis, after being tracked.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) added that a search of his belongings revealed 404 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

He maintained that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the crime and said that he received the ammunition from Yakuba, also known as Dan Kwandago, from Kankara LGA, and Salisu from Wukari LGA, Taraba State, both of whom are still at large.

“Efforts are on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects as investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Similarly, the police command arrested 19-year-old Saminu Usman, a suspected notorious kidnapper from Tsambe village in Jibia LGA, in connection with a kidnapping that took place on May 14, 2023, in Tashar Hurera village in Jibia LGA.

“The fact of the case is that on the same date, a report of kidnapping of one Usman Shu’aibu, ‘m’, age 5 years old, of Tashar Hurera village, Jibia LGA, was received at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters through one Shu’aibu Salisu, ‘m’, of the same address,” Abubakar said.

“On that fateful day, the kidnappers contacted the father of the victim and demanded the sum of N600,000 and three Android phones as ransom, to which the father obliged and secured the release of his son.”

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were detailed to investigate and succeeded in tracking down and arresting the suspect in Lambata, Niger State.”

“During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offense and further stated that he conspired with one Rabe, ‘m’, now at large, to perpetrate the heinous act. The investigation is ongoing.”

Meanwhile, on September 7th, the authorities successfully apprehended Haruna Wanzam, also known as Baba Tsoho, a 65-year-old male residing in Abuja quarters, Katsina Metropolis. He is suspected of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.

It was reported that the father of the victim filed a complaint against the suspect at the Dandagoro Divisional Police Headquarters.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives promptly swung into action and succeeded in arresting the suspect,” the PPRO stated.

“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect took advantage of the absence of the girl’s parents, who were away on a visit, and lured and molested the girl.”
