The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Obodoagu Wisdom for allegedly kidnapping and murdering his five-year-old second cousin.
Police also arrested his alleged accomplice, 24-year-old Sunday Michael, a security guard at 9th Mile and native of Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area, Adamawa State. Operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad apprehended the suspects on August 11, and August 12, 2025, after intelligence reports linked them to ransom demands.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe said on Thursday that the child was first reported missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that Wisdom instructed Michael to demand ₦1 million ransom from the victim’s father in order to conceal his identity.
When the ransom was not paid, the prime suspect allegedly killed the child and buried him in a bush near their home in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA. The suspects later confessed, and Wisdom led officers to the burial site, where medical personnel exhumed the child and confirmed his death.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa expressed condolences to the bereaved family and pledged that the suspects will face trial once investigations are complete. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to uncover heinous crimes and deliver justice.
