The Katsina State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects involved in aiding and abetting banditry, along with the recovery of suspected rustled animals from them.
ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement released in Katsina on Thursday.
He noted that the arrests were made in Jibia Local Government Area with the assistance of the State’s Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local hunters.
“On July 25, 2024, a team of police operatives attached to Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, while on routine patrol in collaboration with the KSCWC and Hunters, successfully arrested two suspects, all from Zandam village, in Jibia LGA.
“The suspects were arrested along Magama cemetery in possession of two rams, one sheep, and a goat, suspected to have been rustled,” he said.
He further revealed that during the investigation, the suspects admitted to receiving the rustled animals from a suspected notorious bandit leader named Nura, from Mazanya village in Jibia, who is currently at large.
The spokesperson noted that the suspects were en route to sell the animals at Magama market in Jibia local government area.
According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the suspects confessed to having repeatedly received suspected rustled animals from the bandit leader and sold them.
He confirmed that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fugitive bandit leader while the investigation continues.
Sadiq-Aliyu attributed the success to the ongoing efforts of the command in combating armed banditry, under the leadership of Commissioner Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa.
