The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers said to have been terrorising the Sarau Belel community in Maiha Local Government Area, following a report of a kidnapping threat.

The development was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.

The statement explained that on December 26, 2025, a resident of Sagal Village, Emmanuel Daniel, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that two individuals threatened to abduct him. The suspects were said to have claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of his younger brother, Joshua Daniel, who was taken in November 2024.

Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, immediately instructed the Divisional Police Officer in Sarau Belel and officers of the division to carry out a prompt and well-coordinated operation.

The operation led to the arrest of Sunday Yakubu, aged 36, and Daniel Yakubu, aged 38, both indigenes of Konjoli Village in Maiha LGA. According to the police, the suspects confessed during questioning and are currently assisting investigators with valuable information.

The Commissioner has also ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take over the matter to ensure a detailed investigation and effective prosecution in accordance with the law.

The police command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to continue supplying timely and reliable information to security agencies.

In a related report online, had earlier disclosed that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency confiscated 1,396.5 kilograms of illegal drugs and arrested 150 suspects across Adamawa State in December. The state NDLEA Commander, Aliyu Abubakar, attributed the success to intelligence-driven operations, including airport activities, which resulted in the dismantling of drug hubs and interception of dangerous consignments.
