Police arrests man with fake dollar notes

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of Garba Haruna, who is suspected of forging currency in the vicinity of Computer Village in the Ikeja area of Lagos state.

In a statement released on Wednesday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, claimed that Garba was apprehended when his victim raised the alarm after unintentionally spotting him near the location where he had been conned engaging another customer.

After being apprehended, the suspect, according to him, confessed to committing the crime.

Hundeyin said, “The Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious currency counterfeiter who specialised in duping unsuspecting members of the public within Computer Village in Ikeja area of Lagos metropolis.

“The suspect, Haruna Garba, 38 years old, was arrested after a victim he had duped in August 2022, raised the alarm after unexpectedly sighting him again, dubiously engaging a customer, close to the same place he had been swindled.”

“Preliminary investigation indicated that Garba, who was found with fake $700, has been in the fraudulent business of fake currencies for over three years after he was tutored by his late master.

The PPRO stated that the suspect had been brought to state headquarters for additional investigation and prosecution.

Hundeyin said, “The Commander, RRS, CSP, Saheed Egbeyemi, has in line with the directive of the commissioner of police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, transferred the suspect and exhibits to the State Headquarters for further investigation and eventual prosecution.
